Marie McNair, SNP MSP, visited the Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) shop in Clydebank on Thursday, August 28.

CHSS is Scotland’s largest health charity, dedicated to helping people with chest, heart, stroke and long Covid conditions live fulfilling lives.

Ms McNair said: “It was great to meet the Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland team at their shop and to hear of all the fantastic work they are doing in supporting those who are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions.”

Currently, one in five people in Scotland are living with these conditions, with many experiencing fear, isolation and loneliness as a result.

CHSS’s team of stroke nurses, support workers and volunteers helps ensure that people do not have to recover alone.

The charity’s retail outlets, including their pop-up shop in Clyde Shopping Centre, generate around half of the charity’s income, helping to fund essential services such as the Community Healthcare Support Service.

The CHSS shop in Unit 43, Clyde Shopping Centre, welcomes donations every day from 10am to 5pm.

It is also seeking more volunteers to help with the day-to-day operations of the store.

Lisa Scott, retail regional manager at Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, said: “We thank Marie for taking the time to visit our Clydebank shop.

“Visits like this help showcase the incredible efforts of our retail staff and volunteers as they strive to make a positive difference in the area.

“We are always looking for more selfless volunteers to give their time in our shops – even for just a couple of hours a week.

“Volunteering has a range of benefits, not just for the charity, but also for the volunteer themselves.

“Volunteering improves mental health, fosters friendships and helps with social isolation.”

Anyone interested in volunteering with the charity is encouraged to visit the CHSS website for more information.

Ms McNair added: “Their shops are vital to the running of their services, and they are always on the lookout for new volunteers who want to get involved, connect with others and make a difference.

“Please do reach out if you are looking for volunteering opportunities.”
