Supporting phone ban in classrooms

It is an absolute privilege to have been re-elected as your MSP for the Clydebank and Milngavie constituency. It is such an honour to represent the constituency I was born, raised and still live in.

I will continue to work hard for you and to be your voice in the Scottish Parliament. I am always here to listen and help so please do get in touch if you need my assistance.

It has been a busy few weeks since the election as Parliament returns and we get back into the swing of things. There will be some changes made to business in Parliament, with for example, two First Minister’s Question sessions a week. I am looking forward to the opportunities this provides to raise more of my constituents’ concerns with the First Minister.

Parliament will soon discuss the proposals to make school classrooms phone free, which I plan to speak on. I know this is an issue that concerns many of my constituents within East Dunbartonshire.

In the last session of Parliament, I raised this matter with East Dunbartonshire Council, and the former Cabinet Secretary for Education various times after meeting with constituents to discuss this.

I am pleased that my party, the SNP, committed in their manifesto to ban phones in classrooms as I believe this will allow pupils to focus on their studies free from distractions. I am aware that many still have further concerns about the detail of this proposal, and indeed, about the use of phones outside of classrooms in schools.

These are points I will be taking away with me to raise with the Scottish Government.

Looking ahead, I am excited to see the return of the classic car show during Milngavie Week on Saturday, June 6, 10am-5pm.

There will be over 100 cars on display in the town, with lots of free activities for kids, including a racing simulator.

Please do pop along as this is a great way to support the many wonderful local businesses in Milngavie. I am certainly looking forward to attending.

As always, I am here to help if you need my assistance, do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing me at marie.mcnair.msp@parliament.scot or by phone on 0141 737 8010.
