Marie's latest column from Milngavie and Bearsden Herald
Over the past couple of weeks, I have loved getting out and about across Milngavie and Bearsden North. As Parliament is in Recess it has given me the chance to focus on the issues that matter to the community.
An issue that I know is causing concern is the proposed closure of the Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Milngavie.
When I was first made aware of this, I wrote directly to RBS to express my extreme disappointment in this decision and to request a meeting. As a result, this decision would leave only one local bank in Milngavie and none in Bearsden.
During the meeting I reiterated the concerns of older members of the community who, if unable to drive, will find a trip to another RBS branch very challenging. This decision, I feel, also does not factor in the value residents place in speaking to a member of their bank face to face to discuss any problems they may be facing.
I agree with some local residents that a banking hub may now be required, perhaps in Bearsden. This is something I will be looking into further.

I also recently popped into Jack O’Beers in Milngavie. Back in March this year I submitted a Parliamentary Motion recognising them as a new business in the community. They are a family run business who are helping to bring more variety and quality products to Milngavie town centre; something which I am pleased to see.
I was pleased to be able to present them with a framed copy of their motion in the shop and also get the chance to meet the team.
We had a productive discussion around what they offer and also the challenges facing them and other small businesses in the town.
