Clydebank service which provides families with short breaks praised

A local MSP has presented a support service for adults with a learning disability with a framed Parliamentary Motion for its outstanding fundraising efforts.

Marie McNair, MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie, paid a visit to Quarriers Dunn Street Short Breaks Service in Duntocher to present the parliamentary motion.

It was lodged by the MSP in the Scottish Parliament, lauding the team's commitment to raising essential funds.

Ms McNair said: "I was delighted to present a parliamentary motion to the Quarriers team in recognition of their fantastic fundraising.

"I am pleased that the funds raised will go back into the service to fund trips over the festive season and to help fund the community garden.

“They have such an excellent team of hardworking staff who provide person-centered support and really focus on the needs of everyone to make sure they have fun outings that give them new experiences and help tackle social isolation.

"Well done again to the whole team – this is very well deserved and special thanks to Maya."

Quarriers Dunn Street Short Breaks Service provides respite care for individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs.

The service offers a 'home away from home', which can accommodate up to six guests, and relies heavily on the funds raised to continue its operations.

This year, the service raised £1245 at a summer open day, thanks to the efforts of staff and the generosity of families who use the service.

Lorraine Bell, the project manager, said: "I’m incredibly proud of the team.

"They put their heart and soul into everything they do, not only in the care they provide but in the fundraising that keeps this service running.

"Their commitment is truly inspiring – they are dedicated to ensuring Dunn Street remains a safe, fun, and welcoming place for our guests, and we couldn’t do it without their passion and hard work."
